Heart Foundation benefits from Pitch and Putt Marathon

Tim and Suzanne complete 25 rounds

A new Dutch and World Pitch and Putt record was created on Friday 20th June. Papendal Pitch and Putt owner Suzanne Bosch and Papendal member Tim de Goede played 25 rounds (450 holes) in one day in a flight of 2. Suzanne and Tim played on Papendal Pitch and Putt near Arnhem, The Netherlands. Strokeplay rules operated and play was only during daylight. The intrepid pair started at 04:30 AM and finished playing at 22:00 (10:00 PM). Suzanne and Tim played for a good cause, the Dutch Heart Foundation.

Suzanne and Tim thank everyone who supported them right through the eighteen and a half hour day. Special thanks go to Esther, Maurits, Lies, George, Sylvia and Donja who helped the pair through final few rounds, when they were understandably flagging, having walked nearly 50 km. Grateful thanks are extended to all sponsors and also to Pitch and Putt Papendal for supplying food and drinks all day.

Catalonia v. Ireland 2014

 Lloret Papalus, June 6-8.

The Sunday singles were split 6-6, which gave the Catalans a deserved but hard fought victory. The young guns, Conor McCarthy and Shane Redmond, maintained their impressive 100% records to give Ireland hope but Catalonia won all three ladies matches. Enric Sanz, Josep Martinez and Ricardo Betlinski provided the other three home singles wins to see the Catalans over the line for their second win in this sixth International Challenge.

The full details can be found here.
Catalonia v. Ireland Scores

Two wins out of two for Conor McCarthy and Shane Redmond over Marc Ibáñez and Jordi Torrecilla as, for the moment Ireland and Catalonia were tied after one afternoon fourball. Kevin McCarthy and Ian Dillon won their fourball encounter by 3&2 against Marc Lloret and Enric Sanz but otherwise four wins by the Catalans left the home side 3 clear overnight.

The Catalans won three and halved one of the of the morning foursomes to take quite a grip on proceedings. However, the Irish fought gallantly and wins by Martha O'Brien and Maree O'Toole in the ladies match and Shane Redmond and Conor McCarthy in the juniors encounter left Catalonia just a single point clear heading into the afternoon fourballs.

JOSÉ ANTONIO DE MIQUEL R.I.P.

José Antonio de Miquel, President of the Catalan Pitch & Putt from 1998 to 2002, has died last weekend at the age of 80.

Catalan players and administrators are expressing sincere condolences to members of his family, and indeed gratitude for all his efforts to foster and promote the new sport in our country. José Antonio was the promoter of the lovely course in Manresa. He succeeded Martin Whitelaw as president of the Catalan Association in 1998 and through a number of initiatives significantly increased the numbers of licenced players while actively encouraging promoters to build more courses. During his mandate as president he introduced the popular national ranking circuit (which has since gone from strength to strength), the National Matchplay tournaments and the annual gala prize giving ceremonies. Furthermore, José Antonio oversaw the introduction of the acclaimed computerised handicap system for all competitions throughout Catalonia.

He was succeeded as president by José Maria de Anzizu in 2002. Several courses staging competitions paid respect for the work of the deceased president observing moments of silence before tournaments began.

May José Antonio de Miguel rest in peace.
