Dutch Open Orvelte 2014

Final Leaderboard

Rolf Kwant's domination of the VII Dutch Open continued through Sunday at Orvelte. The Dutch ace took a five shot lead into the final round and added a seven under par 47. That gave Rolf a 25 par under par 54 hole aggregate of 137 and an eventual eight stroke margin over Ireland's Ray Murphy, who had previously won three Dutch Opens andformer 2 time Irish Open champion Damien Fleming (Ireland). Fleming closed with a 49 for his 145 total while Murphy carded 48. Dutch player Marcel Ahuis fired a Sunday best 46 to place fourth on 145, just ahead of Ireland's Trevor Ahern.

The top two ladies produced last round play of the highest quality. Trailing by four shots starting out, Herma Kleinlugtenbeld, winner of this title in 2009 and 2010, sparkled with a 49. However, Esther De Schiffart returned an impressive 51 to add the 2014 Dutch Open to her previous wins in 2011 and 2012. Ireland provided the senior and juvenile winners. Mick Keenan (Ireland) took Over 55 laurels on 165 while 175 won the Under 16 category for Cian Murphy.

Netherlands international Rolf Kwant was a runaway overnight leader in the Dutch open at Orvelte. Rolf fired fabulous Saturday rounds of ten under par 44 and eight under par 46 to post 90 (-18) for 36 holes. That left the Dutchman (who won this tournament in 2010 and was third in 2009) five strokes clear of Irishman David Ahern (47+48). Ireland's Damien Fleming (who placed 3rd in the last 2 Dutch Opens) was just another shot back after a brilliant second round 44. Three time Dutch Open champion Ray Murphy (Ireland) was lurking on 11 under par 97 after Saturday rounds of 50 and 47.

The ladies open was dominated by a couple of former two time winners. Esther De Schiffart posted matching 53s for a 2 under par 106 and a four shot overnight advantage over Herma Kleinlugtenbeld (110). Ireland's Mick Keenan returned 50 and 53 on Saturday to lead the senior event by five from Ele Snieder (Netherlands).
